Exhibition "Tiha poezija"
Bernard Šimunović presents Tiha poezija (Silent Poetry), a major solo exhibition opening September 4, 2026, at Gradsko Kulturno Središte (GKS) in Metković, Croatia. The exhibition marks the first comprehensive presentation of his Relational Lines series, developed continuously since 2020.
The exhibition traces six years of inquiry into reduction, spatial relationships, and the quiet presence of form. Through minimal gestures, line and expansive color fields, Bernard investigates what remains when everything else is removed: structure, silence, and the tension that arises through restraint.
The exhibition takes its title from the contemplative quality at the heart of this body of work. "Silent poetry" reflects an artistic language built not on drama or expression, but on precision, balance, and the space between elements. Each painting is an exercise in subtraction, reducing the complex to its essential geometry, where figures are suggested rather than stated, and color becomes architecture.
Curated with an essay by Prof. Zorana Vekić, President of Matica hrvatska Metković, the exhibition is presented under the patronage of Ogranak Matice hrvatske. The works on view demonstrate Bernard's continued commitment to making the complex simple, a practice rooted in decades of refinement across multiple series, from early figurative explorations to the distilled language of Relational Lines.
This presentation offers a rare opportunity to experience the full scope of Bernard's current practice in a single, focused exhibition, a visual vocabulary that has become increasingly spare, increasingly deliberate, and increasingly powerful in its economy of means.
