Bernard Simunovic (b. 1974) is a Croatian artist and designer who lives and works between Germany and Croatia.
His artistic practice is characterized by reduction, clarity, and a disciplined use of line.
In his ongoing series Relational Lines, Simunovic explores connection, proximity, and presence through minimalist linear compositions.
What initially appears simple reveals, upon closer observation, a complex spatial and emotional structure.
A black or subtly colored contour functions as a unifying element throughout his work, linking figures, space, and horizon.
The line operates almost as a lifeline: it does not narrate but structures relationships. Rather than illustrating stories, the works distill the tension inherent in human connection, the space between distance and proximity, encounter and silence.Through deliberate reduction, Simunovic creates an open field for interpretation.
By removing unnecessary detail, the works focus on essential elements: presence, relationship, and the quiet resonance of being.Simunovic began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo before continuing his education in Germany, graduating from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in 1999.
He has worked as a freelance artist and designer since then and founded his own art and design studio in 2004.His work has been exhibited internationally and  is featured on international art platforms, and is held in private and institutional collections.
