Exhibition Tiha poezija – Silent Poetry
PRESS RELEASE
Bernard Šimunović
Tiha poezija – Silent Poetry
May 4 – May 29, 2026, Gradsko kulturno središte Metković
The exhibition Tiha poezija (“Silent Poetry”), curated by Zorana Vekić and realized in collaboration with the cultural institution Matica hrvatska – ogranak Metković, presents recent works by Croatian artist Bernard Šimunović from his long-term series Relational Lines, which he has been developing continuously for over two decades.
At the core of his painting is the line as a connecting element. It structures figures, space, and architectural forms, creating a network of relationships rather than narrative scenes. Šimunović works with reduced means to articulate complex emotional states.
His compositions move between geometric order and organic dynamics. Figures appear fragmented yet interconnected, situated within a field of tension between proximity and distance. Recurring motifs such as human figures and gestures evoke themes of vulnerability, care, and balance.
The works are characterized by precision and restraint. Subtle shifts in line and color generate a quiet yet lasting dynamism. Their impact unfolds gradually, requiring attentive and prolonged viewing.
With Tiha poezija, Šimunović presents a consistently developed artistic position grounded in reduction, clarity, and temporal continuity.
